Fighting the man

I love Fridays. Friday is that one day a week that is consistantly good. Well, good is an understatement, but it's true. Friday is payday. Friday is the last weekday and the portal to whatever insanity the weekend may offer. Friday is the day that I skip class.

Skipping class is definately a bad habit. Just one or two missed days and, WHAM, you've got two zeroes and a quiz that you had no idea was about to happen. This, unfortunately, is what has happened to me already this semester. So you'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now, but that's before you knew that Ferris Bueller is somewhat of a personal hero of mine. Mostly because of the vest.

I skipped class for a book sale today. I heard today in Chinese 2001 that there was a book sale down at the student center, and among those whispers I also heard the mention of "... all for a dollar!" Now I am not really a strict believer in buying something simply because it is on sale (come on, those people are just idiots; even they know they're idiots). But books for a dollar?! Sign me up!

I walked straight in and straight out of my telecomm class, the sweet siren song of Truancy singing in my ears. The world is never brighter than when you are playing hookie: the grass is greener, the sky is bluer, and I am sounding gay. ugh.

This Book Sale to End All Book Sales that I had imagined was really rather pathetic. A couple of tables stacked with woefully pathetic titles such as "Chimpanzee Travels" or the always riveting "United States and Canada: Trade Regulations" was what the book sale turned out to be. Come on, a major university-sponsored book sale should at least have seven tables! And maybe a Stephen King novel? By the way, I'm reading Dreamcatcher right now and it is blowing me away.

I pick up a couple of interesting titles (Heat and Blaze: Modern America Poetry, Social Theory and Popular Culture, and, my favorite: The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) but after handling them for a few minutes I realized that I was perilously close to being one of Those People. You know, the aforementioned who simply settle. Needless to say, I fled the scene. I then got 5 pages of Dreamcatcher read. I rule.

As I sit in my Art Appreciation class (seriously, it's just Art History for dummies. Dumb dummies) I look back on today's truancy fondly. It was definitely worth it, even if I missed out on some extra credit (unlikely, but possible). That said, I think I'm going to go ahead and dip out of this one, too. The intricacies of symmetry are some ideas on which I have a firm grip.
